Kanawha Bridge Project:

The new Kanawha River Bridge located in Charleston, West Virginia is an $83 million improvement of the I64 corridor constructed by

Brayman Construction Corporation. Upon completion, the main span will be the longest continuous segmental span in the United States – and possibly within the entire North American continent.

Leasco Equipment Services supplied four JD Neuhaus Profi 16TI air chain hoists to lift and lower a 100,000 pound work platform nearly 100 feet from the bridge span to an awaiting barge on the Kanawha River. The three strand Profi 16TI air hoists have a compact square bottom block arrangement that allowed the entire bottom hook assembly to pass through a 10 inch opening in the bridge structure. The variable speed control of these hoists was also critical in positioning the platform safely on the barge.
